Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

A quieter but welcoming day for competition today with everyone appearing to have a good time.
We were slightly less attended in all classes than usual but this saw all riders in 5 out of the 6 tests all with a rosette!!
Beginning with Introductory A saw a well deserved 1st place for Tracey Hepworth and Ellan’s Hobo who were ahead of 2nd place with a good 2% beautifully announced into the arena by the fantastic, all be it with a sore throat, CE Dressage Official caller, Simon !

Junior rider Lianna Spalding and Tinkerbell won both Junior sections both Introductory tests.

Introductory B and Preliminary 4 was won by Jocelyn Studdart and Annie with 70% and 67.72%.

Natasha Al-Egaily judges the final Preliminary test and two Novice tests for us putting Jackie Edginton and Naz (pictured on our news page) 1st with 70.5% in Preliminary 7just .5% from 2nd placed horse Joe with Wendy Ellis and 1st in Novice 25 with 63.20%. Novice 34 and the veteran section in Preliminary 7 was taken by Lynne Webster and Bally.

Sunday 12th July

Today saw some very high scores and many riders on equal placing in three of the seven classes.
We welcomed two new judges to CE Dressage again today with Helen Coleman and Emma Walters taking on the job.

To begin the day in the Introductory A saw Jane Goodwin and Todd take lead position with 68.69% ahead of four riders all sharing 2nd with 60%. All Junior riders took away a rosette with Katie Dowker and Sundance taking 1st place.

Helen Coleman placed Tracey Hepworth and Helen Mason in first position with 64.34% with an error of course costing Judy Warr a share of 1st place dropping her to 2nd.

Preliminary 1, judged by Helen Coleman, left Tracey Phillips and Janina Mikoajski together in first place with 72.63% just again two marks separated 1st and 2nd places but this time on collective marks which ended up putting Helena Carr in 2nd place. Just one mark were to separate the 2nd and 3rd place of Jane Goodwin and Finlay with two marks then to 4th so it was any ones class very close and of a good standard with the highest score of the day been achieved by Junior rider in Preliminary 1, Jade Watt and Yogi with 73.15%.

Emma Walters judged Preliminary 4, Wigwam Sam ridden by David Reynolds on 68.63% won the class one mark ahead of Jane Goodwin and Finlay. Again another close class. Jade Watt and Yogi continued to keep up the 70% trend to win this class and take the highest overall class score.

After been in 3rd place in Preliminary 4 just 3 marks behind the winner saw Joanna Maffin and Infiniti take 1st position in Novice 20 with 69.20% with over 3% in front of the 2nd placed rider.

Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won the Junior section with 64.40%.

Lynne Tolan kindly judged the two Novice tests and the Music class putting Emma Walters and Woodcroft Frazer in the lead with 73.20% followed by Andrea Banforth and Hugo in 2nd place with a good 69.60%.

Our last class of the day the Freestyle was won on Artistic marks by Elizabeth Holdsworth and Topper Harley snatched from Sarah Wood and Peak Town Mattie both with 68.33%

Our second competition back - and it was rather warm!
Good class numbers again added to a good competitive feel.
Our Intro tests are getting great support this is really good news as it was a little slow when we first introduced the classes.
Another NEW face to the judges chair for this competition was Sarah Huntridge. Sarah judged both of the Intro tests, riders left good feedback so hopefully we will be seeing Sarah again at “C” in the near future.
Jane Goodwin had a good start to the day to win Intro A on Todd and Junior rider Amy Wetherill won the section. Intro B was a very well deserved, Helen Mason with All That Jazz who took top spot ahead of their Prelim debut at CE Dressage.
The very flashy bay gelding, Colly, ridden by Selwyn Hardy took the first place in the Senior section and overall win of the class, judged by Joanne Wainwright, with a great 69.09%. Adele Taylor and Masiy won the Junior section.
A double win in the Preliminary 12, judged by Caroline Lockie, and Novice 34, judged by Lynne Tolan saw a delighted Maureen Beales and Walton’s Fine & Dandy take the too top places.
Junior rider Rebecca Steer won Preliminary 12 and Junior rider Christopher Bradshaw won Novice 34.
Our final class of the day, judged by Lynne Tolan was won by Melanie Sullivan and Ellie. Junior rider, Christopher Bradshaw was put in with the adults and came 3rd.

Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

We have returned to a more than comfortably full day of competitive dressage. It was a bit hair raising at the begining of the day but once into the swing of things normal service resumed.

An early start for our new judge Mrs Fiona Farrell who took on the two well supported Introductory tests. An over the moon Margaret Thompson stormed ahead on her "hairy" to steal the class with 69.13%, a really good start to the day and a hard mark to follow.

Introductory B with 68.69% was a new face to CE Dressage, Emma Limbert and Willow with Jackie Edginton and new rider Carling in 2nd place.

Taking the top place in both Intro tests for Junior riders was Lianna Spalding and Tinkerbell.

Another new combination was Caroline Palmer and Wodin,a 4 year old on his first outing was in the lead in Preliminary 7, judged by Lynne Tolan, with a fantastic 69% a good start to their dressage career.

Preliminary 10, judged by David Lannon, saw Rachel Clements and Inca take the highest place with 66.36% just prior to their Novice debut.

In both Preliminary tests it was Jade Watt and Yogi that took both first places.

Eleven riders forward for the Novice 25 class, judged by David Lannon, saw Rachel Clements taking the honours here too - fab start to Novice classes.

Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won the Junior section but was put to the overall class in the Novice 34 as he was the only Junior rider and he came out in 2nd place.

Double win in the Veteran sections with Lynne Webster and Bally winning the Preliminary 10 and the Novice 34.

Novice 34 was won by Melanie Sullivan and Ellie.

Thank you to Sarah and Morgan for writing today and "my" Kirsty for been Fab doing everything for me with the scores when it all went a bit mad!

At the end of a long day everyone appeared to be happy and enjoyed a good day.

Alternative Competition

With the sad news that the competition at Middleton Park had to be cancelled due to the horses been unwell I quickly offered riders to take part in the "alternative" event at Birch Laithes Farm, Bretton.

Seven riders brought their horses forward at Introductory and Preliminary level to endure the wild windy weather and had an enjoyable day.

As there would be a rider who went home without a rosette we decided that the Inrto riders will be placed seperatly to the Preliminary riders so the results stand as follows :-

Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

It was great to be back after the February's competitions been cancelled and more pleasing to know the horses are well at Middleton Park.

The Introductory tests were well supported, the most competitors we have ever had at this level. In the Introductory A test we had all eight starters forward and all riders taking home a rosette and likewise the full compliment of entries in the Introductory B all prize winners.
In both the Junior and Senior sections at this level saw double winner. Joanne Maffin and Infinti won both tests with a good score of 65.65% in the A and 68.26% in B. Junior rider, Tammy Blackburn and Tia also had a double win also with the higher score coming in the second test with 56.95% in Intro A and 60.43% in the B.

Our Judge, Mr G Redman, judged both the Introductory tests and the Preliminary 1 which again had all 16 starters forward and it was the super coloured horse Wigwam Sam ridden by David Reynolds who led the class on 70% closely followed by one mark by Helena Carr on Duchess woth 69.47%. Our Junior winner was Nadine Hilton with Champlers Little Lord who rode to score 67.36%.

Twleve starters forward in the Preliminary 4 test, Jade Watt and Yogi took the Junior section on 64.54% with the Senior section headed by Maureen Beales and Walton's Fine and Dandy on 64.09%.

Natasha Al-Egaily was our judge for the final Preliminary test and the Novice 20 and 25. From the five starters in Novice 20 the winner on 60% was Fiona Barr and Calvin a worth while late entry I would suspect.

Both the Novice 20 and Novice 25 was won by Rebecca Woodcock and Woodview Aloysius in the Junior section whilst Novice 25 was taken by Helen Lynch and Beat the Odds.

The Novice Freestyle to Music was won by Elizabeth Holdsworth and Topper Harley with a pleasing 66.66%.

Well done to all riders in the competition today as people came today to achieve personal goals and even have a first crack at it but not taken home a rosette and feel equally as pleased - well done to you all - see you in two weeks?!

Sunday 25th January
Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

The second competition of the year saw a full compliment of entries with six classes to contest in the winning riders defiantly were worthy of their red rosettes.

To begin the day Mr Graham Redman kicked us of with the Introductory A with three riders forward saw newcomer to dressage John Greaves and Harbess Fioella share top spot with Jocelyn Studdart and Annie on an equal 66.08% both riders setting a good score for the day to follow with Helen Mason and All That Jazz in the second placing.

Moving onto the second Introductory test of the day, Introductory B, saw a super win with 70.86% for Tracey Hepworth and Ellan’s Hobo. Lucy Thompson riding Carlton Cooler was in second place with a pleasing result of 67.82% from a show jumping background this was positive for the future.

Mr Graham Redman was continuing through the Preliminary test 4 for 12 starters forward. Junior rider Jade Watt begun the class and staying in top place throughout with 73.10% with Yogi. Senior rider Helena Carr and Duchess with 70.90% .90% away from second rider Tracey Phillips and Cobilla on 70% to take the Preliminary 4 test.

Miss Caroline Birkett took to the judges position for the second of the Preliminary tests, Preliminary 7, with 24 starters forward was Jackie Edginton and Monty on a grand 73.50%, native win all round as the junior rider Adele Taylor and Cheeko on 66.50% kept the native flag flying through the class.

Through the afternoon the Novice tests begun and it was 8 year old Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso who won the junior section and also the test outright with 65.60%. Moving onto a win from second place in the Preliminary test was Tracey Phillips and Cobilla with 62%. Sally Hughes on the move into Novice on Mosaic was in second place.

Trying out the 2009 Novice test for the first time after the release of the new British Dressage test 34 saw Rebecca Woodcock, the junior winner in the test, with Woodview Aloysius on 66.25% and Helen Lynch with Beat the Odds a senior win on 64.16%.

Unaffiliated Dressage Competition
Sunday 11th January 2009

We enjoyed a peaceful but worthwhile competition for the opening event of 2009.
With British Dressage introducing a second walk and trot test, Introductory B, we put it on the schedule for riders to give it a shot.
Opinion from riders was constructive and the test will be part of our schedule for the future.
Michelle Lobban and Kenny was the winners of the Introductory A with 68%+ a great start for the new year. Second place rider in the Intro A by only one point was Jocelyn Studdart and Annie, who went on to win the Introductory B test with over 66%, this was a really rewarding win for young horse, Annie, who is steadily improving her performance in the test arena - gaining eights for the walk movements.

David Lannon was our invited judge for the day and judged the remainder of the classes.

After only riding the horse 12 times before the event saw Alison Gallagher on her borrowed horse, Holly, claim top spot in the Preliminary 1 test from 10 starters. Holly was loaned to Alison by her owner ,Donna, as Alison’s horse is having a break which proved to not be a bad move when taking a win and a 6th place in one day.

Junior riders in Preliminary 1 was Nadine Hilton and Kenny taking the section and Bethany Bell on the cheeky coloured gelding, Rory in second place.

A very satisfying score of 69.54% saw Tracey Hamilton and Artful Dodger win the Preliminary 4 test from 14 starters and to just pip Sally Hughes and Mosaic in second place with 69.09% - so close! Third and fourth place horses were also claimed with one point separating them. Third place, Irish Draught gelding, Walton’s Fine and Dandy with Maureen Beales and fourth place horse, the super Connemara, Monty, ridden by Jackie Edginton. The trend continued with fourth and fifth rider having just one point separating the places for Jackie Edginton and Teresa Shephard with the lovely coloured horse All The Colours.

Rebecca Woodcock had a great day for the junior riders as she topped the section in Preliminary 4, Novice 20 and wining the section and the overall test in Novice 25. Well Done Rebecca!

The Novice 20 test was a good class seeing a good standard of riding overall. Jane Atkinson and Mystery made her Novice debut out of the placing but pleasing for the leap up to Novice. Our winner with a great 68% was Helen Lynch and Beat the Odds almost caught by Maureen Beales and Walton’s Fine and Dandy by .40%. Helen also went on to take the top score in Novice 25 with 65.60%.

Our only rider in the Dengie Pony Club Winter Dressage League qualifier was Melissa Searby and Lowmoor Libby. Melissa won the class with a super 69.58%.

Sunday 14th December
Unaffiliated Christmas Competition

To round off the year of competition 65 horses were entered for the Christmas Competition. In addition to the usual Junior and Senior sections two classes added a Mature and Veteran section with also Freestyle to Music class. These sections will be included in some of the competitions in 2009 as are the introduction of Music tests at Introductory, Preliminary and Novice level.

Lynne Tolan begun judging at 9am with the Introductory A with Junior, Senior and Mature rider sections. Winner of the Mature section was Andrea Evans with Bruno, supporting a fantastic Santa outfit!!!!!! Overall winner of the class and the senior section was Tracey Phillips and Lord Whinston with a good score of 64.78%.

Continuing in the judges seat for the Preliminary 4 with 19 starters saw Tracey Hamilton and Artful Dodger claiming the top spot for the overall class on 70.45% in the senior section and Bethany Bell and Rory in the junior section. Tracey also turned into Santa for her test getting into the Christmas mood.

Preliminary 10, judged by Diane Vardey, included junior, senior, mature, and veteran sections. Storming ahead in the senior section and winning the overall class was the “pyjama party” combination of Sally Hughes and Mosaic with 73.63%. Sally, Mosaic and owner Angela had all got in fancy dress - Mosaic even had rollers in her mane! Carol Wainwright and 22 year old Rio won the veteran section, Jackie Edginton and Monty won the Mature section with Laura Woodcock and Woodview Aloysius.

Five riders took part in the Novice Music Freestyle with one mark separating the winner, Elizabeth Holdsworth and second place rider Helen Lynch. Elizabeth rode Topper Harley to “Topper does Tinseltown” routine to top honours and a bottle of wine she handed over to her dad for helping her all year. 8 year old Christopher with 8 year old Sainlee Picasso was in 3rd place with his Jingle Bells compilation and a few bucks for good measure! It was less than 1% that separated the 4th and 5th place riders Christine Ellis and Sara Burton.

The Novice 30 was won in the senior section by Jane Mansi and Williams Quest and Christopher Bradshaw with Sainlee Picasso for the junior section to also take the overall class and take home our special prize.

Time for the veterans to strut their stuff again in the Novice 32 with Colourkeyed and Christine Ellis taking the first place. Helen Lynch and Beat the Odds from the senior sectioin won the overall test with Rebecca Woodcock having a second win for the juniors.

It was great to see so many happy faces all encouraging one another and offering good wishes for the Christmas season as for most folk I would suspect it would be their last outing before Christmas. The fancy dress was great - really well supported and nearly every class was won by a Santa!

Dont forget to check if you have qualified for the Championships 2009 and where you are standing in the Points League.

Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

We had an action packed day with maximum number of entries to kick us off with the 2009 Championship qualifiers and the NEW C.E.D.G Points League.

With the new qualifying rules in place many riders are all ready in the running for the 2009 Championships.

An early start of 8am saw our first rider of the day, Wendy Ellis, with Joe take the top spot in Introductory A from 15 starters with 68.69%. Michelle Lobban and Kenny just missed out on first place with 68.26%. Michelle’s daughter, Nadine Hilton, claimed the junior section in Preliminary 13, judged by Diane Vardey, also on Kenny.

Lindsay Armitage and Poppy took both first prizes in the Preliminary 13 on 69.58% and the Preliminary 18 on 67.91%. Our junior rider in the Preliminary 18 was Rebecca Woodcock and Aloysius.

Again the Pony Club tests weren’t that popular with only one rider forward which was Jade Watt and Dominos Dream, judged by Caroline Birkett they scored a repectable 66.29% and qualify for the next round.

By the time 3:30pm came we were just beginning the novice classes. Rebecca Woodcock with Aloysius won both Novice junior sections and and Gill Schofield with Katies Choice won the Novice 27 . Helen Lynch had a double win also with Beat the Odds in the Novice 32 and then the Elementary 44 to share the win with Victoria Dobie and Sterling Durant.

SUNDAY 9TH NOVEMBER
UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

We had a full schedule and entries to the maximum with a waiting list which was super - sorry to those riders that didn’t make it to riding - I tried my best to fit you all in.

A prompt start at 9am for 11 starters in Introductory A. Junior rider Jade Watt and Yogi won the section and the overall class with 68.26%. Michelle Lobban won the senior section on Kenny. On his second ever dressage test was John Greeves and Harbess Fiorella who did some pleasing movements but missed out on the placing.

Caroline Lockie stepped in as the judge for the Preliminary 1 test with 15 entries forward it was the first horse which set the standard for the rest of the class remaining in the top spot from the outset was Caroline Vater with Jimmy Mac. In second place and in the running for the points league and at the start of his Irish Draught performance awards was Walton’s Fine and Dandy ridden by Maureen Beales, who was also placed in the Preliminary 7.
The Preliminary 1 junior section was won by Nadine Hilton on Kenny, after taking the ride from her Mum with her own pony on a break after the summer, Nadine pulled off a pleasing 66.84%. Caroline commented on the turnout of the “coloured” horses - Kiowa and Ferguson Uno.

Preliminary 7, judged by David Lannon, saw 18 starters forward. Sarah Jane Roper and Black Widow won the class with 69% the second horse to go in the class, set a good standard with Jon Taylor and Emily in second. Junior rider Pippa Haigh and Ferguson Uno won the junior section and also the Pony Club Dengie Novice Qualifier.

Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won both Junior sections in Novice 20 and 25. Judith Cochrane and Dr Banner won the senior section with 62%.

Novice 25 was won by Sharni Verity and Fizz Bomb very closely followed by Angela Stocks and Pythagoras II.

A really well done to Samantha Cammalk with Todleyhall Issac for having a go at the Preliminary 7 after the horse was a little bit onward bound and spooky but having a go at the second test makes it better for next time, well done.

C.E DRESSAGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

SUNDAY 26TH OCTOBER

Riders got together to battle it out in the Championship for 2008 but before we were to find out who were the worthy winners for the Introductory, Preliminary and Novice levels were the warm up/open tests to gain honours in.

Our day begun at 9am with Caroline Birkett judging the Introductory A test. For Jade Watt and Yogi and John Greeves and Harbeth Sioella it was their first outing to C.E Dressage with a pleasing result for both partnerships. Jade wining the class overall and the junior section and John finishing in 3rd place with Michelle Lobban and Kenny wining in the senior section.
The Introductory warm up class was kindly sponsored in the Senior section by Hollingthorpe Farm Cattery and Junior section Joanne Wainwright.

For the Introductory A Championships had two judges, one at C and one at F, for riders to achieve and average percentage. Caroline Lockie and Lynne Tolan both worked together to find the Junior and Senior winners in this level.
Having won the warm up class it was 2nd place for Michelle Lobban and Kenny as taking the senior section in the class was Lostock Island Girl and Sally Jane Herbert with a score of 66.08%.
Lauren Woodward and Paddy won the Junior section.
The Introductory Level Championships were kindly sponsored in the Junior Section by Tom Pears AWCF and the Senior Section sponsored by Shillbank Stores.

A large Preliminary 1 test was judged by Lynne Tolan who had Mosaic and Sally Hughes in the top spot with 72.10% a good 4% higher than the 2nd placed horse, Caroline Vater and Jimmy Mac.
Nadine Hilton and the 17 year old Champlers Little Lord, who is sadly so hopelessly outgrown he is FOR SALE won the junior section on 74.73%!!!
Preliminary warm up test was kindly sponsored in the Senior Section by Richard Hoyland and in the Junior Section Hollingthorpe Farm Cattery.

Diane Vardey and Natasha Al-Egaily were the two judges taking us through to the end of the day with the Preliminary 4 Championships.
Our Senior Section was sponsored, with thanks, by Sellers Solutions which saw Tracey Hamilton and Artful Dodger taking home the Trophy and also winning the C.E.Dressage Group Members Championship 2008 to claim the rug at the Awards Evening, 2% ahead of the 2nd placed horse.
A well deserved win for Tracey who has had her fair share of second placed at C.E Dressage recently - Well Done Tracey!

The Junior winner was Nadine Hilton again with Champlers Little Lord took away a Trophy and second top spot of the day sponsored by Thera-Vet.

With all the riders all within the equal % mark in the Novice 20 warm up test it was Joanne Myatt and Dancing Red Devil who claimed the red rosette .4% higher than the second placed horse, Amanda Crozier and Chester. Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won the junior section.
The class was sponsored by Hollingthopre Farm Cattery and Joanne Wainwright.

The final Championship test for 2008 was the Novice 25. The Welsh Cob Tymor Figo taking top honours and the C.E.Dressage Group Members Championship 2008 rug with Sarah Cockerham, section sponsored by Sellers Electrical. Junior rider Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won the Junior Section sponsored by Aimbry Stud to take the Trophy and the C.E Dressage Group Championship 2008 rug at the Awards Night.

SUNDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER

The final competition before our Championships for 2008 saw riders eager to achieve a qualifying score. Lynne Tolan begun the judging at 9am with the Introductory A test which is becoming more popular and well supported to add to the competition feel. Janette Chapple, from Wakefield, with the lovely coloured horse, Star, produced a fluent test - with just one very small oversight - taking top honours. Star has had a little time off through illness so it was really encouraging to see Star and Janette back in action even if the dressage is not as exciting for Star as galloping on the beach!

For the Junior riders in the Introductory test was Lauren Woodward and Paddy steeling top spot from Harriet Haslem and Fred both qualifying for the C.E Dressage Group Introductory Championships 2008.

Deneen Kirkham with Mount Olympus was really pleased with the test as they are just setting out on their dressage path and are improving their performance and test technique with every test.

From WPW Dressage, Liam Sloan, under went a long days judging beginning with the Preliminary 12 test. With lots of familiar faces wishing to have a go at the higher number tests in the run up to the Championships it was a new combination to C.E Dressage, Jackie Edginton and Naz, with what turned out to be a great debut outing with a double win in both Preliminary tests. Jackie has had a while finding the right equine partner but they both seem to have hit it off well with two very well presented tests.

Junior rider, Lauren Woodward, took home the red rosette and a double win scooping the honours also in the Preliminary 12 partnering Paddy with Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso coming in 2nd place. Christopher wasn’t going to let 2nd be his best score when he racked up two first place rosettes in both the Novice tests with admirable scores. At 8 years old Christopher is proving he can hold his own overall placed 6th, 2nd overall in both Novice tests.

Elizabeth Holdsworth and Topper Harley are always great characters to welcome to the competitions, along with Mr Holdsworth, who always have something really encouraging to comment and offer support to other riders. Elizabeth came in close 2nd place after an accurate test to Jackie Edginton with a very pleasing score.

Moving onto the Senior Novice test saw our winner with 4% score ahead of the second placed rider was Amanda Crozier and 18 year old Chester. Chester allowed Amanda to ride him during throughout to produce a fluent and consistent test and a well deserved win. Amanda should be confidently looking forward to the Championships and is also heading the C.E Dressage Group Points League Table - keep your eye on this exciting combination in the run up to the Awards Ceremony.

To round off the day, Liam completed the final Novice class with Helen Walker and Castro C as the winners - another combination qualified for the Championships we are looking forward to a good standard of competition and well deserved Champions.

It was great to see riders coming to see us even if not on horseback - Mum thinks it’s the bacon sandwiches that attracts them but it must be included within the friendly atmosphere and good competition too.

SUNDAY 24TH AUGUST
UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

With the competition falling on bank holiday weekend numbers were a little lower than most competitions but an enjoyable day was had by the majority of people.

Taking advantage of the lower numbers we made a later start with the Intro A test at 9:30am. Rebecca Vertigan and Promised Serendipity won the class with a respectable score of 68.26%. Always impeccably turned out Promised Serendipity supported lovely heart shaped quarter markers which always impress me!

Junior winner in the Intro A was Hannah Whitley and Oakey Kokey. Hannah brought her steel grey horse and had the added pressure of been the first to go in the competition to win the section.

Over the moon with the test was Deneen Kirkham and the well presented coloured horse, Mount Olympus, on there first time out. At 6 years old Mount Olympus made his dressage debut with Deneen to secure themselves a third place.

Moving onto Preliminary 7, the first of the Preliminary tests for the day, saw an absolutely elated Jane Atkinson with Mystery took the top spot a good 2% higher than the 2nd placed horse. Jane's win with Mystery was very special not only that Mystery is not always the most amenable horse when it comes to a test so well worth the effort and commitment from Jane but this win has been the first red rosette Jane has taken in 15 years! Well done Jane.

To top the second Preliminary test, number 10, saw Elizabeth Holdsworth and Topper Harley score the highest percentage of the day and the accolade for the test with 69.54%. Only arriving home from holiday the day before it was a good end to the weekend for Elizabeth and family to have stolen the test 3% ahead of second place.

Destine to always be second is Tracey Hamilton and Artful Dodger who in both the Preliminary tests took the blue rosette, been chased in Preliminary 7 by Intro A winner Rebecca Vertigan with Promised Serendipity and in Preliminary 10 by Preliminary 7 winner Jane Atkinson and Mystery.

In both the Preliminary tests 8 year old Christopher Bradshaw and Sainlee Picasso won both the junior tests. In the Preliminary 7 test, Christopher scored 63.50% which would have placed him in 3rd place in the overall test and 4th place overall in Preliminary 10 with a 61.81%. Christopher is proving even at such a young age he is capable of holding his own in a combined class - watch out for him in the future.

Moving onto the Novice tests after lunch saw a double celebration for Amanda Crozier and the veteran gelding, Chester, who stole the top place in both the novice tests. Watched by her parents Amanda and Chester produced two very fluent and accurate tests. From been robbed of a 1st place the week before in a show class Chester took two firsts just to make up for it.

Such a pity for Diana Myers and Forum Chris with a super start to the test until Chris decided he was going to offer his opinion when the canter arrived which was very different to the opinion Diana had which sadly pushed them into 3rd place.

Unfortunately due to Gary been injured riders were left to their own devises in the collecting ring and responsible for getting down to the arena on time for their tests - all riders were very efficient and the competition ran like clock work - thank you very very much.

An early finish too - which was lucky for Jane Atkinson and her family who were going home to open the champagne!

UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION
Sorry for the delay folks - been a bit hectic with sales and regionals so I am a little behind with the results - there here now though!

We kicked off the day of unaffiliated dressage with the Intro A test. Michelle Lobban with Kenny took the class after a little lay off from injury on a very respectable score of 70.86% with also a 6th place in the second test. Again the really well turned out coloured team of Billy Elliot and Glynwyn Bits and Pieces took rosettes and gained more confidence and skills in the dressage arena. A new rider to C.E Dressage was Rachel McHale who brought her stunning horse Eric to take the Preliminary 1 test with a whopping 77.89%!! All six placed horses in the Preliminary 1 test were finishing on scores to be delighted with. A very strong Preliminary 13 test saw Jo Crossland and Noble Manna taking top spot with 75.41%. After struggling with practise the week leading up to the test it was a worthy win for Jo after a 3rd place in the previous test.
The Novice tests saw 70% for Roosevelt and Sue Chadwick to win the 20 and Angela Stocks and Pythagoras III with 69.60% in the 25. Sue Dent won both Elementary tests.

Unaffiliated Dressage Competition

Super weather, super atmosphere, Super competition!

The sun beamed down on a successful and enjoyable competition of unaffiliated dressage.
Many red faces collected their prizes on one of the most pleasurable days of competition at C.E Dressage.

Heading the leader board in the first class of the day, judged by Joanne Wainwright, was Zena Cheesebourgh and Blackmere Duke scoring 75.21%. Zena had not competed this horse for two years with C.E Dressage been their first outing. Very much worth the journey to win the Intro A, Preliminary 12 with 72% and claiming 2nd in the Novice 30.

C.E Dressage welcomed Mr Graham Redman for his first invitation as our judge, making Junior rider, Lisa Clayton’s day with Carrie to win the Preliminary 12 with a successful score of 71.20%. Lisa was over the moon with the win, “she has never done a dressage test - we’ll have to see how she goes” said Lisa of Carrie the previous day. The win standing the pair in good spirits for their dressage outing at Ponies (UK).

For the seniors in Preliminary 12 it was all a matter of “if I hadn’t gone wrong” - it was a fraction of a mark that separated the first to fourth places, with at least two of the riders kicking themselves for having an error of course causing a change in the placing. With Blackmere Duke stealing the first place on collective marks of 58 from Tracey Hamilton and Artful Dodger also with 72% but a collective mark of 56 left Tracey settling for second place.

Mrs Lynne Tolan, was welcomed for Preliminary 13 and the Novice 30 tests. Former racehorse, Inca, ridden by Rachel Clements secured the first place on a respectable 66.66%. Inca, an accident prone chap has secured himself a place in the Ex Racers Championship at The Ultimate, the win here a great confidence boost. In second place a speechless Elizabeth Holdsworth with Topper Harley. Elizabeth was looking for her score whilst sharing how the test went, the second placing took her attention, the combination also competing at the Ultimate Championships.

Novice 30 was taken by Jane Goodwin and Pythagoras III with 69.23%. For the Novice 32, judged by Joanne Wainwright, say Angela Stocks and Pythagoras III wining a good class. Angela was quiet nervous prior to the test but pulled it off during the test to settle the win as good 5% ahead of the second place. Having had a bit of a rough time with the horse Angela was elated with the win if not some what teary.

Natasha Al-Egaily and the super horse, Erkison, took both Elementary tests with 68.43% and 70.80%.

Everyone was fabulous and made the day such a pleasurable one. All riders had made such an effort to present themselves and the horses impeccably. Jane Jowett with the young coloured horse Glynwyn Bits and Pieces wowed us all the exceptionally white and brown horse, Rebecca Vertigan also caught your eye with the love heart quarter markers.

To round off a super day of dressage saw riders, families and friends waving as they left the show centre - no doubt to chill out for the evening.

A very enjoyable competition pity more people didnt take advantage of the team test and having interest in the music tests and requests for the test to be put on to have no one enter was a little suprising - not to worry there is another near Christmas.

Those riders forward for the tests though appeared to enjoy themselves and take home a rosette at the end of the class was great for at least six riders.

SUNDAY 4TH MAY
UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

We opened the day of unaffiliated dressage with the useual Intro A following a popular arena walk. We have allowed, where time permits, the arena where you ride the test be open for half a hour or so for riders to take their horses in and have a look around before the test begins. Seven horses were forward for the Intro A test and the class was won by Gill Sykes on a very well behaved Beauty with a score of 67.82%. Emily Rosendale won the junior section on Vics Charm with 59.56%.

Caroline Lockie was our invited judge and judged both the preliminary tests. The winner for the Preliminary 4 test in the senior section was Sarah Allott with Sir Toby on 70%. The junior section was taken by Ellie Raye Dawson and a very entertaining Highbeat Monarch.

Preliminary 7 was also won with a score of 70% by Lisa Worrall and Star. 64% was the wining score for Nadine Hilton and Champlers Little Lord in the junior section.

The Novice tests judged by Joanne Wainwright saw Lisa Worrall and Star wining the class with 65.20% and Olivia Gibson and Ellie wining the junior section with 65.60%.

Rita Pitman and Mouse won the Novice 25 senior section and Jaymie Twyman and Nelco De Bonnieville won the juniors.

There were real excitement especially in the Preliminary 7 when the scores were going up, Jane Atkinson was like the cat that got the cream with the highest score ever achieved with her horse Mystery in a dressage test of 66%.

UNAFFILITAED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

After a set back at the start of the competition with ill horse - thankfully is fine now, we got going and had an enjoyable day. With a smaller amount of entries than usual we had a steady day with the Intro A been the first class. Our regular rider Mandy Schofield won the class with the lovely well mannered Bramble joined with Michelle Lobban and Kenny. Kenny having just come back into work after a lay off was really well behaved.

In the first preliminary test Olivia Gibson won for the junior riders with Ellie. With very few mistakes saw Olivia take the section with almost 70%.

For the senior riders in both Preliminary tests saw a double win for Lisa Worrall and Star. In the first Preliminary 14 test Lisa was joint winners with Sarah Allott and Sir Toby on a good 70% score with the Preliminary 18 Lisa shared the win with Maureen Beales and Fine and Dandy on a score over 70%.

Nadine Hilton won the Preliminary 18 on Champlers Little Lord for the junior section with 70%.

Both Novice tests were taken by Sue Chadwick on Roosevelt - his first competition this year and he behaved really well.

SUNDAY 6TH APRIL
AFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

77 horses were presented for judging at the affiliated competition. All classes were really well supported and of a great standard too. We opened the day with the Preliminary 14 test with 11 horses forward in front of List 5 judge David Lannon with Kirsty Mester on her debut affilated competition wining the overall class on a very pleasing 70%. Kirsty parntered the lovely cob gelding Murphy who is sadly for sale, they also were pipped in the Preliminary 18 by .41%. Restricted rider Vanessa Ryle and Clan Chief won the Preliminary 14.

Preliminary 18 restricted rider Jessica Wilson partnering Millthyme Lambrusco won the section and was third overall and 4th in the Novice 28.. From Barnsley, Jessica is definatly one to watch for the future.

Denise Mitchell and Highgrove wonn the Preliminary 18 open section with 70.41%.

In the Novice 27, judged by Linda Vernon, List 4, Andrea Clarke and Vivere won the overall class and restricted section with 70%. Open rider Katy Cook with Horton Dancer won the Open section and was second in the overall class.

Lisa Lane and the lovely spotted Gentleman Jim won the open section and as 4th overall in the Novice 28 qualifier judged again by Linda Vernon. Stephanie Campbell - Jones with her homebred gelding by Demonstator, Desafiador, won the restricted section and the overall class qualifying for the Regioanls.

List 1 judge, Clive Halsall judged for the final four tests. Begining with the Elementary 42 saw Jane Bradshaw and Queens Gem wining the restricted section and second place overall with 64.68%. Cathy Burrell and Clovers Little Tiger won the Open section and the overall test with 65.62%.

Elementary 44 was won by Darryl Thickitt and Korenbloem Ludanchello as was the overall test with 68.40%. Natalie Platten and Gingenie won the restricted section with 63.60%.

Moving onto the Medium tests well into the evening saw Margret Hallums and Lenamore Miss Imp wining the restricted section with 59.65% and Darryl Thickitt and Urban Hit wining the Open section and the overall test with 70.68%.

For the final test of the day, Gary Kirby and Just Buster won the restricted section with 63.87% but wining the overall test and the open section was Darryl Thickitt and Urban Hit on a good score of 71.61%.

Even though not every one who enters can win no one could have been over the moon with the performance than Jane Atkinson. Jane entered the Preliminary level on Mystery. Even though the score wasnt high Jane felt overjoyed by the improvements she has made over the time she has been riding this horse and is determind that the improvements will continue in the future.

SUNDAY 30TH MARCH - UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION

What a day! With 76 horses forward for judging we kicked off at 8:30 am to be able to get everyone entered a spot. Opening the competition with the British Dressage Introductory A test the day begun with a strong class of 11 riders.

Janette Chapple and Star won the test with 63.04%. Mandy Schofield had two horses entered in the test and after a safe ride to claim 5th place on Bramble, Mandy withdrew her second horse after parting company in the collecting ring. Mandy is fine though and was laughing about it in the evening.

With so many entries forward it made sense to spilt the Preliminary tests to leave a shorter space of time between tests. 17 horses were forward for the P10 in the morning with Carrie Evans and Pogo wining the test on 65% and also in 2nd place on Taffy with 64.54%.

In P12 Jayne Jenkinson and Owlett Spring Night won the class along with the Novice 27 with 66% and 65% respectivly.

A double win also for the Junior sections with Kirsty Mester and Murphy taking top spot in both tests. Kirsty has had a while off from the dressage arena with Murphy, which is sadly FOR SALE, but showed she was still on form with a 65.45% & 68% win.

Julie Petty on her first outing to C.E Dressage with Hope won the Novice 28 with a respectfull 63.33%.

Moving on to the afternoon Preliminary tests again saw a double win for the Junior rider Sarah Shay with Elvie on 60% and 64%.

Preliminary 10 in the afternoon was won by Mel Sullivan and the really big moving horse Benson with 65.45%.

Preliminary 12 was taken be Rachel Clements and Inca with a great score of 68.40%. Separating the 1st and 2nd place was the colletive marks only as Amanda Crozier and Chester were sharing the same percentage but just pipped by Rachel Clements leaving Amanda Crozier with a pleasing 2nd place.

Olivia Gibson and Ellie, 2nd in the mornings P12 looked an exciting combination for the future with a respectable score of 67.60%.

On the first outing with Annie since buying her was Jocelyn Studdart - to take 60% in her first test.

AFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION - SUNDAY 16TH MARCH

List 4 judge Mrs Simms joined us from Hope Valley in Derbyshire for a full day judging all the six tests.

The atmosphere was brilliant from the outset.

Having settled for second place on a number of occasions it was a well deserved and welcomed win for Sally Hughes and Brian's Life in the Preliminary 12. Sally, based in Wakefield, bred Brian 6 years ago and he has been brought on slowly. The Irish Draught TB X gelding is showing producing him in this way is begining to pay off having already part qualified for the Summer Semis. Second place to Sally was Kate Warren and Little Mye.

Preliminary 14 was taken with a score of 71.25% by Jessica Wilson and Millthyme Lambrusco. Jessica rode a really fluent and accurate test to take the overall class. Second on her affiliated debut outing was an elated Nikki Lawton with 8 year old Irish Sports Horse,Casper the Friendly Ghost to gain part qualification for the regionals. Nikki was equally pleased with the Novice win gaining two grading points.

Also on the first affiliated ride was young rider Nadine Hilton wining both the Preliminary Open sections with the veteran pony, Champlers Little Lord. After a panic at 8:30am when arriving at the competition when asked if they had a bridle number a makeshift bridle number was on display for the test with the intervention of a few inventive onlookers.

The Novice qualifier was won equally by two Welsh ponies. Elizabeth Kinnaird and section C Wyken First Lady shared top spot with Elizabeth Haigh and section D Drydun Charlie Boy both scoring the qualifying percentage.

Another equal first position in the Elementary saw Trevor Dixon and Thomas Dolan sharing the respectful 65.62% first place.

The last class and the highest score of the day was Callum Whitworth with Caroline Saynor's Danger Mouse to win the Elementary qualifier with a wopping 73.20%.

AFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION - SUNDAY 2ND MARCH

With the wind blowing a gale throughout the night I had laid awake wondering what to do with Mum and her buttie stand - as she let the last tent blow away in the wind breaking it! It was finally decided that she could pitch her stand in the office due to the wind continuing into the morning.
Some riders who were having to come over the Pen nines chose to withdraw as the wind was too gusty to travel which was unfortunate.
Mrs Simms (list 4) and Miss Rodger (list 2A) were the judges for the competition, both had good horses in front of them during the day.
In both Preliminary tests it appeared like the history of the unaffiliated days were repeating themselves with Elizabeth Haigh and Sally Hughes battling it out for the Preliminary titles.
The Novice non qualifier was won in both the Open and Restricted sections with exactly the same score and collectives by Jane Bradshaw and Matthew Fancy. Matthew also won the Elementary qualifier in the open section. All those dressage enthusiasts attending the British Dressage Northern Forum (Fri 14th March) look out for Matthew with the Northern BYRDS.

The Novice qualifier the gorgeous gelding, by Demonstrator, owned, ridden and bred by Stephanie Campbell - Jones with a 70% plus score and part qualification to the semis.

Open rider, Eliza Mason and Carina H, won the Elementary qualifier with Natalie Platten and Gingenie winning the restricted.

With 66 horses forward for a full day of competition we were kept on our toes all day. The Junior tests were split due to the number of junior riders entered which has been the first time we have had to do this.
Opening the competition was a win for Jocelyn Studdart and Valentino. Jocelyn had a few teething problems in the first instance but then kicked on to win the class with a very respectful score, 64.63%. After a long wait lying in first position Amanda Crozier was pipped at the post by Sarah Allott with Sir Toby to win the Preliminary tests, Sarah was also second in the second Preliminary test of the day behind Jayne Jenkinson and Owlett Spring Night. Jayne was really pleased with the outing.

UNAFFILIATED DRESSAGE COMPETITION - SUNDAY 20TH JANUARY

Many new faces entered the competition to kick us off in to 2008 which was really great. We begun at 9am with the British Dressage Walk and Trot test for an action packed day. It was first timer Janette Chapple with her lovely coloured horse Star that took the class with a good score of 64.78%. Judged by Joanne Wainwright.
Nadine Hilton and the veteran Champlers Little Lord won both the Junior Preliminary tests with neat and almost foot perfect tests.
Amanda Crozier used her experienced gained at previous competitions as writer for the judge to take top spot and an equal third position in the Preliminary tests. Equal placing taken with April Bottomley and Brenig Richard. April also took a Preliminary top spot with Sassy Bee. Both prize winners claiming a picture in Equestrian Life.
The Novice test saw all riders producing fluent tests. It was Bobby Good and Roscars Jasper winning the class closely followed by Alison Gallagher and Diana Myers. Junior rider Christopher Noble also earned a well deserved 67.14%.
